Kingfisher Bay Resort is a multi-award winner, last year it won both the Australian and Queensland Tourism Awards for Environmental Tourism.

It is the fourth time the resort has won a Queensland Tourism Award.

Among a string of awards won since opening, Kingfisher Bay holds three Australian Tourism Awards as well two Gold Pacific Asia Travel Association Awards (PATA) and Australia’s top architectural prize.

The major Fraser Island attractions of Lake McKenzie, Central Station and Seventy-Five Mile Beach are easily accessible from the resort.

The resort is surrounded by a wealth of plant and animal species. Rare acid frogs, bats and sugar gliders can be seen at night.

There are 325 species of birds on the island including migratory waders, sea eagles, large colourful parrots, honeyeaters and kingfishers.

The bountiful plant life provides bush tucker (bush food) and natural medicines. A freshwater creek spills into the ocean close to the resort. It is edged by five mangrove species.

Humpback whales visit Fraser Island from August to October. Australia's purest breed of dingo roams the island.

Kingfisher Bay's team of highly skilled rangers conducts daily a variety of four wheel drive guided tours to explore the Fraser Island wilderness and explain the natural and cultural history. They also offer a daily range of free nature walks and activities.
Learning about the environment is fun for children. The resort has a free junior ranger program for children at weekends and during Australian school holidays.

Activities are designed to allow guests to enjoy and, at the same time, learn about this very special island without impacting on the environment.
