Built in 1873 amongst 20,000 hectares of a sheep grazing property, this beautiful Australian homestead is the focal point of the working sheep station.

Owned by the Clark family who live and work on the property, the original homestead has been renovated adding modern facilities, offering 8 luxury bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a licensed dining room and additional outdoor dining areas.

Guests enjoy a superb range of delicious Australian country cooking accompanied by a selection of fine wines from the famous Barossa Valley, which is part of the scenic drive to Portee.

A variety of tours are available on and around Portee Station to enable guests to view the abundant native flora and fauna such as kangaroos, emus and the wonderfully intriguing hairy-nosed wombats.

Birdlife flourishes on the adjoining lagoons and billabongs of the River Murray, and for those guests wishing to involve themselves in the complete outback experience, sheep sheering, mustering and other station activities occur depending on the season.

Whatever you choose to do, the clean air and wide open spaces of Australia's unique outback lifestyle will captivate your senses.

Self Drive 3 Day 2 Night
Barossa Valley- Outback Australia - River Murray

Day 1.
Depart Adelaide and drive to Gawler, Lyndoch, Rowlands Flat, Tanunda. Visit the wine interpretation centre. Here you will be given assistance and directions to allow you to explore the Barossa. When you are ready, and allow one hour for the drive, follow the Sturt Highway through Truro to Blanchetown. Turn right at the B.P. service station and follow the signs to Portee. Park at the stone wall and enjoy a welcome drink with your hosts. You will be shown to your room. Wind down over a home-cooked three course dinner in the dining room.

Day 2.
Cooked breakfast
Spend the day at Portee participating in the station activities or simply enjoy the comfort of the homestead and its surroundings. Join an educational tour to learn more about the station activities and the abundant wildlife and birdlife. The tours are conducted by boat or 4WD and will depend on weather conditions and seasonal sheep station work. Morning and afternoon teas and a sumptuous stockman's lunch are provided.

Relax over a three course dinner to chat about the day's activities and get to know your hosts and fellow guests. As you retire to your room remember to view the starlit sky, and find the Southern Cross.

Day 3.
Cooked breakfast
Take a walk along the lagoon and creek to renew your acquaintance with the birdlife. Drive an alternate route to Adelaide, to Mannum, Birdwood to the motor museum and interesting Adelaide Hills towns. Discuss the options with your host.

Day 1.
We meet you at Adelaide airport or your hotel as arranged.
The scenic drive through the Adelaide Hills and South Australia's famous wine region with your personal guide will introduce you to the South Australian country side. A tour of the Barossa Valley includes a visit to 2 wineries and lunch. Direct your guide to your specific interests and learn about South Australia, the Barossa and its wine industry.

Arrive at the Station in the late afternoon and enjoy a welcome drink with your hosts. Wind down over a home-cooked three course dinner in the station dining room. We are licensed premises.

As you retire to your room remember to view the starlit sky, and find the Southern Cross.

Day 2.
Cooked breakfast
Spend the day sitting in the station activities or simply enjoy the comfort of the homestead and its surroundings. Join an educational tour to learn about the station sheep management and woolgrowing. Tours are conducted by boat or the rocket launcher and will depend on weather conditions and seasonal sheep station work.

Morning and afternoon smokos and a sumptuous stockman's lunch are provided and may be out in the paddock boiling the billy.

Relax over a three course dinner to chat about the day's activities and get to know your host and fellow guests.

Overnight in the Station homestead.

Day 3.
Cooked breakfast
Have a relaxing morning and finish that book or take a tour to a different area of the property, or walk around the Island. You have 40,000 acres to explore and 6000 merino sheep to get to know, or 10km of the River Murray to investigate. You count the birds and let us know the tally. We are happy to answer your questions and assist you to understand life on an Australian sheep station. Our 52 things to do at Portee makes for a busy day.

Morning and afternoon smokos and lunch are provided.

Depart Portee around 3pm fully relaxed with a luxury drive to Adelaide conducted by Portee staff. Arrival time approximately 5.30pm or to suit your next arrangement.
