The Tasmanian Wool Centre was opened in Ross in 1988 to acknowledge both the importance of the wool industry in Tasmania and the historical significance of Ross as one of the State's earliest rural settlements.
The Centre is now one of Tasmania's most popular tourist attractions. It houses:

The Heritage Museum & Wool Exhibition
The world record price for a bale of extra superfine wool has on many occasions been held by wool grown in the Ross region. Displays in the Centre's Heritage Museum and Wool Exhibition include samples of superfine wool cloth and finished garments from the Fujii Keori Company of Japan, together with interesting artifacts from the wool industry of a by-gone era.

Tasmanian Woollen Products, Arts & Crafts
The Tasmanian Wool Centre is a multi-functional building also housing a substantial retail area featuring a range of quality Tasmanian woollen products, arts and crafts. The Wool Centre won the 1998 Tasmanian Award for "Tourism Retailing", and is a Quality Accredited Business.

Visitor Information & Guided Tours
The Tasmanian Wool Centre is part of the Tasmanian Visitor Information Network and can help with information about the many country and historic experiences to be discovered and enjoyed in the Heritage Highway Tourism Region of Tasmania's Midlands. Tasmania-wide accommodation and local tour arrangements can also be booked from the Tasmanian Wool Centre.

Our friendly guides can take you on various local tours including: the Heritage & Wool Museum; the Ross Village Tour; and the Historic Garden Tour (seasonal). Bookings are essential.
