Crocodylus is situated at Cow Bay, between the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation in a tall stand of some of the remaining lowland rainforest on the Queensland coast. The property adjoins the Baileys Creek section of Cape Tribulation National Park.
We are fourteen kilometres by road from the Daintree River ferry. Along this section of road spectacular views of undisturbed coastline and rainforest are seen as you cross the Alexandra Range. Crocodylus is accessible all year round by conventional vehicles.
The rainforest canopy remains undisturbed at Crocodylus. The accommodation huts are built up off the ground and spaced out amongst the dense tropical forest. From the comfort of your hut you can feel part of the rainforest, listening to and watching the wildlife of the forest which is shared with human occupants.
Unified by the desire to stay for a while in this unparalleled natural environment, people from all walks of life are attracted to Crocodylus. Children are welcome and the atmosphere is friendly and casual. A giant strangler fig tree provides a dramatic centrepiece to the village. There is a small well stocked bar and a landscaped swimming pool with a sunbaking area in close proximity to the central living area.
Being in an isolated area Crocodylus generates its own electricity and provides guests with facilities for longer stays:- a coin operated laundry, a well equipped self catering kitchen, a coin pay telephone and a small general store, and our excellent Jungle Restaurant.
To walk in the rainforest, guests are provided with a marked trail looping out into the forest for three kilometres. There is no charge for this walk and a numbered guide is available from reception. Wildlife abounds - cassowaries, wallabies, rainforest dragons, frogs and birds may be encounted at any turn. The trail follows a clear freshwater creek at one stage where jungle perch, turtles and other aquatic life are seen.
On arrival, guests are given an orientation talk and provided with maps and directions of the local area. There are swimming holes and many places of interest in walking distance of Crocodylus as well as miles of isolated beaches where one can simply unwind where the rainforest meets the sand and the reef.
