The Australian Capital Territory has some fascinating attractions from some spectacular natural attractions to the interesting museums and historic museums.There is some spectacular lookouts found around the ACT such as Black Mountain, where you will find the spectacular Telstra Tower complete with a revolving restaurant. There are also the lookouts of Mt Ainslie, Red Hill, Mt Pleasant and Mt Majura. Lake Burley Griffin is an attraction you can’t miss for two reasons, one it is a great place for picnics and relaxing with plenty of water activities to try as well as visiting the parks and gardens that surround it. The second is because it is actually a man made lake and holds great attractions such as the Captain Cook Memorial Water Jet, The National Capital Exhibition, Blundell’s Farmhouse and the Carillon, which can be found on the lake or around its shores.
Being the capital of Australia the city of Canberra holds many historical and political attractions as well as national museums. Heading the list of political attractions include New Parliament House, Old Parliament House, The High Court of Australia and the 60 Foreign Consulates found mostly in the suburb of Yarralumla. The list of galleries and museums is quite long for such a small region and the most popular include the National Art Gallery of Australia and the National Science and Technology Museum. The Australian War Memorial, The National Film and Sound Archive, The National Aquarium and Wildlife Sanctuary and the National Museum of Australia are other great museums or galleries, which provide some very interesting information as well as a chance to see and learn about Australia.
Other attractions found in the city of Canberra include the Royal Australian Mint, The National Library of Australia, The Australian National University, The Australian National Botanical Gardens, The Australian Institute of Sport and the beautiful buildings of the Lodge and Government House.
Around the outskirts of Canberra there is also plenty of places to visit. The natural attractions outside the city of Canberra include Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Ginninderra Falls, Gibraltar Falls, Uriarra Crossing, Kambah Pool Reserve and Cotter Dam. There is also the Corin Forest, Namadgi National Park and the Molonglo Gorge. There is some great observatories and museums found around the outskirts of Canberra such as Mt Stromlo Observatory, The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex, Gold Creek, The National Dinosaur Museum, Ginninderra Village and Cockington Green. Other attractions outside Canberra include the Bywong Mining Town, Lanyon Homestead, Nolan Gallery, Cuppacumbalong and the town of Queanbeyan.
