Melbourne is the capital of Victoria and is a big tourist destination with many attractions especially to the sporty tourist because Melbourne proclaims it is the sporting capital of Australia. With places such as the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), the Australian Gallery of Sport and Olympic Museum, the National Tennis Centre and being the home of the Australian Grand Prix and the Melbourne Cup it is no wonder they see this as the sporting capital of Australia.

Melbourne is also home to some very interesting museums and galleries like Polly Woodside Maritime Museum, Scienceworks Museum, Gallery of Victoria, Victorian Arts Centre and National Gallery and Australian Centre of Contemporary Art. The city is also home to some outstanding parks and gardens as well as the Royal Melbourne Zoo. Some of the gardens include the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kings Domain, Treasury and Fitzroy Gardens and the Flagstaff Gardens. Other places of interest found throughout Melbourne are the Crown Casino, Old Melbourne Gaol, Rialto Towers Observation Deck, Carlton Brewhouse as well as many historic buildings like the Gothic Bank and St Patricks Cathedral.

Around the out skirts of Melbourne you will find the attractions of Werribee Park and Zoo, Brisbane Ranges National Park, the town of Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Mornington Peninsula as well as the penguin paradise of Phillip Island.
