The North East of Tasmania is something special with the scenery and attractions it holds. Starting in the south of this region along the coast is the wildlife sanctuary of Maria Island National Park. Further north is the spectacular Great Oyster Bay and the Freycinet National Park. The town of Bicheno is the main tourist town of the east coast and has the interesting attractions of Douglas-Apsley National Park, the East Coast Birdlife and Animal Park as well as the Sealife Centre.

The north east of this region has the attractive towns of St Helens, Scamander, Derby, Scottsdale and the town of Weldborough with its mountainous scenery. The main attractions from these towns and surrounding areas are the Tin mine in Derby, Mt William National Park, Pipers Brook Vineyard and the Lavender Farm in Nabowla. Off the north coast of this region is Flinders Island, which holds some amazing bushwalks, Mt Strezlecki and the Emita Museum. The island is also home to many beautiful beaches, it is great for fishing and also has some good areas for scuba diving.

The city of Launceston is the main city found in this region. It is located in the north west corner of the region and holds some great places to see and things to do. The most well know places are Cataract Gorge, the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Penny Royal World, National Automobile Museum of Tasmania as well as the many parks, Gardens and historic buildings found in the city. Around the city of Launceston you will find the great towns of Hadspen, Westbury, Liffey Valley, Longford, Evandale and Lilydale. These towns contain attractions such as Liffey Valley Falls, Ben Lomond National Park, Westbury Gemstone, Mineral and Mural Display and Pearn’s Steam World.
