The South Downs area is home to the towns of Ipswich, Warwick, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Toowoomba and Roma. Ipswich is home to Cunningham’s Gap and the Main Range National Park and Warwick has Pringle Cottage and Museum as their main attractions. Stanthorpe is the main centre for this area and is located on an elevated plateau of the Great Dividing Range. South of Stanthorpe is the Girraween National Park, which holds some huge granite outcrops and spectacular valleys. Toowoomba is home to the attractions of the Cobb and Co. Museum, Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery and the Ju Raku En Japanese Garden.

The outback is a vast area with many small towns with their own special attractions. The main places tourists visit include Mt Isa, Longreach and Charleville. Mt Isa has the attraction of The Mine, Jhon Middlin Mining Display and Visitors Centre, Frank Aston Museum, Riversleigh Fossils Interpretive Centre, Kalkadoon Tribal Centre and Cultur-Keeping Place and Lake Moondarra. Longreach is home to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre and QANTAS Founders Outback Museum. Charleville has a Historic House Museum, the Royal Flying Doctors Service Base, the School of the Air and Skywatch Observatory.

Other attractions with in this region include The Birdsville Track, the Simpson Desert National Park, Yowah Opal Fields, Australian Workers Heritage Centre, Beta Farm Outback Heritage and Wildlife Centre, lifracombe Folk Museum, Lark Quarry Environmental Park, Camooweal Caves National Park, Dinosaur Display Centre and Porcupine Gorge National Park.
